Care about Rights?

Free human rights training and awareness raising events

The Scottish Human Rights Commission is supporting an extensive training programme delivered by care sector trainers for care home, care at home/housing support services across Scotland.

Between October 2010 and January 2011 there will be a number of free courses open to all.  The training sessions will use film scenarios and case studies to increase awareness and gives practical advice about how to apply human rights principles.

For a preview of some of the film resources used in the training and some perspectives about what the Care about Rights project hopes to achieve, please view the films at www.scottishhumanrights.com/careaboutrights

Who are the courses for?

The courses are primarily for those working in care home and care at home/housing support services for older people.  Individuals using care services, their families and carers are also welcome to register for the courses.

If you are an individual using care services or family member you may be interested in finding out more about separate sessions being run by the Scottish Human Rights Commission for Age Scotland regional groups and advocacy bodies.  For more information about this please see www.scottishhumanrights.com/careaboutrights

Why attend this course?

The human rights based approach covered by the course will help you to improve your service and allow you to increase your understanding of the rights of people using services and your own rights.

The course will use a variety of engaging activities, discussion, film based learning material and case studies to increase awareness about applying human rights in practice.

You will receive a free copy of the Care about Rights materials and will be encouraged to share what you learn with colleagues, friends and families.

The Care Commission operational staff will also be receiving the training materials and support this project.

What will the course cover?

The courses aim to use the interactive resources to increase understanding and awareness about:

·         What human rights are and how they are applicable in care settings
